    Utilizing and activating media for promoting and spreading children’s rights





Targeted areas :
West Bank (North –Center – South)

Target group(s) :
Palestinian media personals who are working in TV’s; Radio’s; Newspapers; Magazines; and other related personals. Indeed the project is also intended to target 60 children ages 12- 17 years to become a “media child”.

Objectives of the action :
The overall aim of the project is activating the media and its personals at promoting children’s rights through the work they are doing. The project’s broad objectives are the following:

  • Strengthening media personals’ understanding of children’s rights.
  • Empowering children to become active in issues that concern them by granting them a voice in the media and giving them opportunities to plan and participate in their own programs.
  • Increasing the number and quality of children’s programs that are wholesome, educational and appropriate for Palestinian children.
  • Spreading awareness of children’s issues and their rights to educate the public and influence policymaking.
  • Empowering Palestinian media channels by increasing the expertise of media employees.
  • Supporting and empowering media personals to create a suitable media environment, and encourage dialogue to prevent all forms of violence within the society.
  • Enforcing the participation of children in media plans, programs and strategies concerning them.


Target group(s) :

Main activities :
1- Training media personals on children rights issues
2- Preparing and broadcasting TV, radio and journalist programs that promotes for children’s rights.
3- Training Children to act as “media personals”.
4- Holding a local conference in title (Mass Media and Child Rights)

Final beneficiaries :
Palestinian children, families, policy makers, community based organizations and the whole society in general.

Estimated results :
  • Media personals’ understanding of children rights issues became stronger.
  • The number and quality of children’s programs that are wholesome, educational and appropriate increased.
  • Public awareness of children rights was spread and this educating influenced policymaking.
  • Violence within the society decreased because of the creation of a suitable media environment and encouraging dialogue through the empowerment of media personals.
  • Children’s participation in media plans, programs and strategies concerning them was re-enforced.
  • Violence against children was combated through ensuring the harmony and complementary roles of the family and community on one hand and the media on the other hand.
  • Children are now part of live programs where they can give their opinions and suggestions on children related matters and try to find solutions.
  • Work on a clear and specific media strategy to adapt children issues is undertaken.
  • Public participation widened regarding planning children programs in the media.
  • There is more focus on children rights defense and observation of the violations by mass media.
