Building the capacity of early childhood sector in east Jerusalem






The project is a partnership project between The ECCD Coalitions in Jerusalem which composed of: ( Early Childhood Resource Centre, Al- Quds University / Child Institute, Directorate of Palestinian Education/ Jerusalem, Union of Charitable Societies and the private sector representative by Al- Zuhour Preschool and the Child Development Centre) and the Italian party ( Regione Emilia Romagna and Arci)

The main objective of this project is to enhance the institutional capacity of the early child hood sector in Jerusalem. And to strength and builds the capacity of the main players of the sector mainly the:

- The early childhood supervising organizations in Jerusalem who have the responsibilities of the sector. Specifically, the charitable societies Union, the Directorate of education in East Jerusalem, the women are Committees, Al Quds University, and the private sector. In addition, to early childhood Resource Centre, who is seeing as trainer and resource reference for ECCED sector not only in Jerusalem area but at the entire of Palestinian territories? Regarding to the abovementioned organization who are considering as a civil society organizations, they will be benefited in terms of Institutional capacity at the following areas:

  • Improving their capacities at one or more of the following levels: Management, Supervision, monitoring and in some cases at training level.
  • Raising their awareness and senses of responsibilities and activating their role and participation in issues concerning the ECCED sector.
  • Enhancing their skills at networking, coordination and cooperation, especially on how to establish an effective and influential partnership at the local and at the regional level.


The project is also tending to enhance the capabilities preschool personnel at two levels; the human resources level and the institutional level. Regarding to the first level, the project will provide comprehensive holistic, integrated training course to enhance and empower their knowledge, experiences, skills and attitudes. Two types of beneficiaries will be engaged at this training (KG’s teachers, and the principles or head teachers of the targeted kindergartens). In terms of the institutional level, the involved teachers will also benefit by enriching and renovating their KG’s in order to create happier and healthier learning environment for children.

Also the project intends to promote partnership between the Italian and the Palestinian pre schools. Through such joint and exchange activities like networking, coordination and cooperation, especially on how to establish an effective and influential partnership at the local and at the regional level. A group composed of18 head teachers/ supervisors will be participated in two weeks intensive capacity building training course that conducted by CADIAI in Bologna/ Italy. Moreover a twining ship between Italian and Palestinian KG's will be established.
